Mitel (ShoreTel) Connect On-Site End Of Life Information

Mitel (ShoreTel) Connect On-Site End Of Life Information
Mitel, formerly ShoreTel, has announced the end of sale of their Mitel Connect OnSite system – but rest assured that you will have support for years to come.

Current clients using Mitel Connect OnSite are guaranteed support until December, 2029.

So what is going on? In July of 2023 Mitel completed a strategic review of all of their on-site VoIP systems and platforms and determined that the best solution for customers in the future is to migrate to MiVoice Business – a robust and globally supported VoIP system with full PBX features and capabilities, that is able to run either fully on-site, in a hybrid environment, or in either a private or public cloud environment (including Azure and AWS).

What is MiVoice Business? The Mitel MiVoice Business platform has been around since 2014, when it was re-branded from the world’s first fully virtualized PBX that Mitel created in 2009 – so Mitel has a very long history of enhancing, upgrading and supporting MiVoice Business.

What about my current hardware? Mitel and Verteks will help you maintain as much of your current hardware as possible, and in many cases customers can run the new platform using all your existing hardware. If you need new hardware or new licensing, Verteks and Mitel will work with you to protect your investment in your system with a technology refresh program with discounts to protect your investment.

What are the important dates? Mitel made this announcement in July, 2023, and here are the key dates to remember:
End of sale for new clients on MiVoice Connect – July, 2024
End of add-on sales for existing clients on Connect – December, 2024
End of hardware repair (no RMAs) – December, 2028
End of technical support – December, 2029

What are some of my options? You will have many options when you consider a technology refresh with Verteks and Mitel. Your Mitel MiVoice Connect system will continue to run and operate for many years – but we should work together to develop a plan in 2024 if possible. Here are a few of the most popular options:

Migrate to MiVoice Business On-Site, using your on-site hardware. In this scenario you can run your Mitel system on local servers in VMware or Hyper-V. You can keep local phone service, or migrate to SIP. If you have phones that are less than 5 years old, you can generally use them – but if you want new phones you can use our technology refresh program that provides significant discounts on new hardware. Mitel and Verteks will offer you trade-in value for your old hardware and licensing based on the age of your system.

Migrate to MiVoice Business On-Site in a hybrid setup combining your on-site hardware with either public, or private cloud resources. In this scenario you can run your Mitel system on either local servers in VMware or Hyper-V, or on public or private cloud servers, or a mix of both – you have incredible flexibility. Many clients are looking at hybrid for the benefits of business continuity and disaster recover. Others are looking to reduce their on-site server footprint – whatever you decide, you will have options. If you have phones that are less than 5 years old, you can generally use them – but if you want new phones you can use our technology refresh program that provides significant discounts on new hardware. Mitel and Verteks will offer you trade-in value for your old hardware and licensing based on the age of your system.

Migrate to MiVoice Business in a private cloud. In this scenario you will have full control and totally private cloud resources, so you have the flexibility to manage your upgrade windows, security posture, business continuity configuration and more – while having the benefit of scalability and geographic redundancy that pure cloud brings. If you have phones that are less than 5 years old, you can generally use them – but if you want new phones you can use our technology refresh program that provides significant discounts on new hardware. Mitel and Verteks will offer you trade-in value for your old hardware and licensing based on the age of your system.

What should you do next? MiVoice Connect customers will have options, and plenty of time, to make plans and conduct a migration. Mitel and Verteks will do everything possible to guarantee continuity of service and support for years to come. The best way forward is to consult with the Verteks Mitel support team to review your options including remaining onsite, moving to a hybrid cloud setup, or moving to a local private cloud, or public cloud – we will customize a migration approach to meet your specific needs.
