How Managed Services Can Boost the Top and Bottom Line

How Managed Services Can Boost the Top and Bottom Line

Most people think of managed services in terms of the technology value they provide. The managed services provider (MSP) monitors and maintains the IT infrastructure to ensure optimum performance and reduce the risk of downtime or a security breach. When a problem does arise, the MSP is there to resolve it — often before end-users are even aware there’s an issue.

Obviously, this has a positive impact on your technology environment, and provides you with a more predictable IT budget. It also frees your staff from the headaches of handling technology-related tasks. However, managed services also create business value by increasing efficiency, enhancing communication, and providing your team with the tools they need to make better decisions and enhance customer service.

A recent TechAisle survey of small to midsize businesses (SMBs) in the U.S. shows the relationship between managed services and top- and bottom-line results.  According to 46 percent of survey respondents, managed services contribute to business growth through faster resolution of IT issues. Organizations are able to increase revenue by optimizing system availability and performance, enhancing productivity, and enabling staff to focus on core competencies. Managed services also help organizations reduce business risk by enhancing their disaster recovery and business continuity practices.

According to 54 percent of respondents, managed services improve the bottom line, primarily through reduced IT costs. Managed services also provide greater control over the IT environment, enable organizations to maintain a leaner business, and make costs, performance and the user experience more predictable.

In addition, survey respondents said that MSPs provide the expertise needed to keep pace with technology change. This benefit was echoed in a separate report from MarketsandMarkets, which found that managed services give SMBs access to expertise typically found only in the largest enterprises. Many organizations are finding it harder than ever to hire and retain IT specialists, making it difficult for in-house staff to keep up with ever-increasing business demands.

These benefits aren’t new, but they’re capturing the attention of SMBs as the pace of business accelerates. Organizations are becoming more and more reliant on IT to drive innovation and new business opportunities. They are looking to support remote workers through mobile and cloud-based services. They are concerned about cybersecurity risks and the potential impact of business disruption. The right MSP can help them address all these issues and more.
